Negotiating
I believe the biggest part of this business is negotiating.
Nothing will get done, nor will you get anywhere unless you develop or learn some skills in negotiating.
Real Estate revolves around data and analysis followed by negotiation. People want to know that you know what you are talking about by bringing them relevant data, and by displaying your expertise in the field, but the deciding factor of whether you will get a good price or close a deal revolves around your ability to negotiate and position your skills and the services you offer. There is a lot you can get out of investing into courses and learning about real estate except that part in particular. Some things come with experience and some things separate the hard hitters from the one hit wonders.
I am touching on this topic because it is something I am learning myself. I have negotiation experience when it comes to sales, but not tailored to this industry and as I continue day to day to develop and grow I take my failures and make a mental note with them.
Some of my early failures had to deal with my eagerness getting the best of me and trying to rush to the finish line. Something I have come to terms with and I have realized in my life in general. On numerous platforms I have been ready for the end results and have not cared much for the formalities that got me to the end result and in doing so put myself in some binding positions.
But with each failure that has come, (and there are many) I try to positive and guide that energy into a creative space. Redirecting my neglect of the process and starting to respect the process, opening my mind to be more accepting of the things that I have gotten wrong and moving forward.
And that has been to negotiating. If I had to give some pointers and tips on what to do in negotiating I would have to say 3 things
1. Remember the end goal, be sure of it and let whoever you are negotiating with know you are sure of yourself
2. Be ready for resistance but do not fall to it. Opposition is the first step to a yes
3. Benefits sell better than features
Just from the experience I have had I learned that people only want to know what they can get out of it, and how can something make there life easier. Somethings to think about next time you are in the position of negotiating
